Elephant Sisterhood

My husband and I recently vacationed at Walt Disney World. There we experienced Caring for the Giants, a backstage tour of the African Elephants. We were educated in the caring, habits and conservation of these amazing creatures in Animal Kingdom. We witnessed male elephants eating and playing as well as females tending to their young. Wow! It was amazing. We learned so many traits and characteristics of these giant animals. One being the sisterhood of female elephants. They create bonds of protection and support with a circle around one who is vulnerable, hurt or giving birth. This protects the vulnerable from predators. Value the Moment

My mom and daughters have birthdays in August. I was reflecting this morning on how blessed I am to have them in my life and how quickly time has passed with them. Over the past two years, we have celebrated their birthdays with a girls’ trip with just the 4 of us. It has been a magical time sharing new experiences together and creating beautiful memories. I want to hold on to those moments forever. I started thinking about how many wonderful memories I have in my life that I may not have appreciated right away. Change of Season Mode!

It’s that time of the year when our freedoms of a random schedule, an abundance of outdoor play, and lazy days on the beach turn into strict schedules, limited outdoor play, and infrequent downtime. As we approach the 4 th of July Holiday, my thoughts are filled with the word Freedom. We have so many freedoms, rights, and opportunities in our country, yet we still want more. I believe we also feel this way about our fitness level. We may be able to move and function in our daily lives, yet we still want more. This is not a bad thing. I was speaking with a friend last week discussing how as a child you believed every family lived like yours. Until you ate dinner with another family and were shocked. I just celebrated another birthday a couple of days ago. Actually, I celebrate my birthday the whole month of May. It is an important day for me for so many reasons. During this time of year, I always reflect on my past life, present life and future life. This year, I noticed the number of wishes and blessings I received in person, via text, and on social media. BETTER

For those of you who know me, BETTER is one of my favorite words. When emPeeps exit the massage room, the group room, or one of my empowerment coaching sessions and claim they feel BETTER, it warms my heart. As a recovering perfectionist, I have learned that BETTER means progress is being made, which is enough. When we explore new activities or step out of our comfort zone, we may set unrealistic expectations. Expecting to be perfect in our fitness training is truly a disservice to ourselves. Anti-aging is a hot topic right now. As you scroll through any social media platform, listen to the radio, or watch television, you will find commercials promoting anti-aging products and remedies. As my 61 st birthday approaches this month, I asked myself these two questions… Why don’t I want to age? I believe we all want a young person’s energy, mobility, vibrancy, and strength.
