  • Mother's Day

    Mother's Day

We are just a few days away from Mother’s Day, which prompted thoughts of my mother, my grandmothers, my aunts, my coaches, my friends, all who were mothers to me in their own way. My daughter is soon to be a mother this fall with the birth of her first baby, my first grandbaby, whom I call Roo. This has stirred up a lot of memories of how these powerful, influential women molded me into who I am today, and the important role I will play in Roo’s life. You don’t have to have your own children to mother someone. And not all mothers play the important motherly role in their own children’s lives. However, as women, we can be strong, caring, loving, encouraging, and ....

  • Bury Your Lies

    Bury Your Lies

My husband and I watched a great movie over the weekend, Seven Days in Utopia , with Robert Duvall, who we appreciate as an actor. In the movie, there was a message that has been popping up for me frequently in many different ways. The message is “Bury Your Lies!” Lies have been penetrating my thoughts more lately. Are you experiencing the same? Maybe due to the change of seasons, which requires more activity, more responsibilities, less clothing, and pressure to plan the summer. In my case, add the expansion of our studio team and my family. With all this change, I’m noticing more lies and less confidence; more stress and less peace. Now that I am aware, I can see ....

  • Anxiety and Excitement

    Anxiety and Excitement

I am learning so much from little kids right now. Did you know that anxiety and excitement are the same from a physiological standpoint? They both activate the sympathetic nervous system, triggering the “fight or flight” response in our bodies. This could include increased heart rate, rapid breathing, adrenaline release, sweaty hands and feet, and stomach butterflies. The difference between the two is our thoughts aligned with these feelings. Is this fear or anticipation? A little girl suggested we look at these feelings as our inner cheerleader. This fight or flight response is our body cheering us on, our inner applause! These feelings are encouraging and empowering us in ....

  • My New Motto

    My New Motto

I saw this reel on Facebook the other day of an adorable family snowboarding together. The little girl was around 7 years old, wearing a microphone so her dad could hear her. She spoke with a sing-song rhythm and sang about how much she loved the snow and being outdoors, along with how good she was at snowboarding. She stopped at a steep area, told her dad she was scared, and then stated she was going to “Do It Scared!” In that moment, I adopted my new motto. This also made me recollect how, as a youngster and gymnast, I attempted things that scared me all the time. As I have aged, I allow fear and doubt to stand in my way. Well, NOT anymore!! I am taking on this little ....

  • The Heart

    The Heart

I have always loved hearts! From my heart-shaped engagement diamond to my office wall of heart shapes in nature, hearts are a big part of my life. Friends often think of me when they see heart-themed items, and it warms my heart to have that association. The heart symbol universally represents love, affection, and emotion— a language understood by all. It also symbolizes an essential organ that we train at Get emPowered Fitness Studio through various methods like cardio and strength, empowerment, and connection. For me, this infinite shape evokes feelings of love, warmth, strength, compassion, happiness, and unity. Hearts are prevalent in art and daily life. When you see a heart, ....

  • Which Circle?

    Which Circle?

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Are you prepared? Is your energy being used in the direction you want it to? I am trying to redirect some of my energy. I have noticed lately that my energy and focus are directed more towards my circle of interest rather than my circle of influence. My circle of interest is social media, world issues, and situations I have no control over, yet they are getting a lot of my energy and worry. Whereas, my circle of influence is my family, the studio, and those I encounter regularly. This is where I WANT my focus and energy to go; however, I notice I keep giving it away to my circle of interest. Not anymore! I am choosing to change that, ....

  • Taking Life for Granted?

    Taking Life for Granted?

I recently realized that I take my wins, comforts, and blessings for granted. I personally want to make a change. I have been gifted with talents and skills that I tend to think everyone owns. I also tend to take my comforts of life for granted. For example, clean water, temperature control in my wonderful home, an abundance of food, a soft bed, a reliable car to transport me to a job I love, and an AMAZING community of friends, co-workers, and clients that fill my cup every day. I have an abundance many wonderful things in my life that others do not have that I have been taking for granted. I am vowing in 2026 to make a change. In my dark moments throughout my day, I will reflect back ....

  • A Christmas Carol

    A Christmas Carol

I love the story of the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The reflections that Scrooge encounters with the three ghosts and his transformation following his night of insight always make me wonder about my own life. The new year is a wonderful time to do the same. Reflect on our past, where we are presently, and where we want to go in 2026. I invite you to look over the past year, celebrate the wins, and savor the joys. Reflect on the challenges, notice your growth from them, and recognize any transformation that occurred in the process. Where are you right now in your life? And where do you want to be in 2026? Let this momentum from 2025 catapult you into creating more wins in 2026! ....

  • Grace

    Grace

The season of hustle, bustle, Santas, and Grinches is upon us. We can get so caught up in our own merriment and to-do list that we may forget that this may not be the happiest time of year for everyone. I know personally friends and family who are currently challenged with travel headaches, emotional trauma, devastating diagnoses, tragic memories, and even recent deaths. Our quote from last week referencing grace was, “Grace is having a relationship with someone’s heart, not their behavior.” What would happen if we treated everyone we encountered with grace, presence, and dignity? The retail workers, the grumpy man standing in line with you, the family member everyone ....
