Celebrating May
It’s May! Time for the weather to stay warmer, the flowers to bloom, end of school celebrations to occur, along with Mother’s Day, Tulip Time, Memorial Day and my Birthday! I love my birthday and I like to celebrate the whole month. I truly celebrate my birth with a 90- minute step class, Raeanne-a-Palooza Step Extravaganza!! It started as a one-time only 50-year-old birthday party celebration but has grown into a yearly event that reminds me of what I am capable of doing now as I celebrate my 59th birthday this month. I love step. It’s my favorite workout in May.
I know a lot of people who don’t like their birthdays. They don’t like the attention. They don’t like the reminder they are getting older. They don’t like the feeling they haven’t accomplished all they wanted to by this stage of their life. I’m sure there are other reasons as well.
For me, as I’ve aged, I’ve gained wisdom, gratefulness, and acceptance that I am doing my best every single day. I used to worry about my pant size, what number showed up on the scale every morning, my hair style, the latest clothing trends, how much money I had in the bank and what others thought of me. Now, I live my life in a way that my relationships with others, my time with family, my impact on the world, my ability to move and how I can empower others are prioritized.
In stating this, I have created a culture at Get emPowered Fitness Studio that emulates this wisdom. We focus on functional movement, how you can accomplish your tasks of daily living more easily. We help our clients realize how amazing they are and what they are truly capable of doing physically, emotionally and mentally. The number on the scale and the size of our pants are not our concern. We don’t even have a scale in our studio. How our bodies move and respond to movement is what we focus on. We only have one body, and it has to last our lifetime.
All of our trainings incorporate these physical components:
Mobility, stability, balance, flexibility, range of motion, strength and endurance.
We also train these emotional components:
Inner strength, peace, acceptance, self-love and keys to happiness. We train from the inside out and the ground up. We believe if your head and heart are in the right place, your body will follow.
These components have helped me stay healthy, feeling young, and happy. My goal is to share this with everyone who walks through our doors.
So, I invite you to celebrate my birthday month with me! Come take a group fitness class. Your first class is free. Or if you are brave enough, attend my Raeanne-a-Palooza Step Extravaganza on Friday May 19, 6-7:30pm. Cost is $20 per person. You will receive a birthday gift from me, a wild ride on the step, and a whole lot of fun! Happy Birthday to me as we celebrate May!
