The concept of Mental Health is a hot topic right now. What does strong mental health mean to you? How do you define it? How can you achieve that? The World Health Organization defines Mental health as “a state of well-being in which an individual can cope with life’s stresses, realize their abilities, work productively, and contribute to their community”.
Here are my 5 top tips for creating strong mental health:
- Create a daily GRATITUDE habit to remind you of all the blessings you have, including great friends and family, wonderful talents and gifts, opportunities to grow and learn, and simple things like clean water, indoor plumbing, air conditioning, and more.
- Move your body every day. Increased blood flow allows more nutrients to get into your joints and connective tissue, making you feel younger and more mobile.
- Take time every week for some self-care, whatever that looks like to you: a nap, pedicure, massage, fitness class, etc.
- Spend some time with your friends and family who fill your cup, people who make you laugh and allow you to be yourself.
- Feed your body with good nutrients from real food. Healthy eating goes a long way.
Try these things and see if, after 3 weeks, you see a difference in how you feel and perceive life. Try it, your mental health will thank you!
